Retrofitting of Barrage, Intake, and Control Room – Sunkoshi Hydropower Station (SHPS)
Retrofitting of Barrage, Intake, and Control Room – Sunkoshi Hydropower Station (SHPS)
The project entailed the structural retrofitting and restoration of key hydraulic infrastructure at the Sunkoshi Hydropower Station—including the barrage, intake structures, and control room. The objective was to enhance operational safety, address long-term wear and tear, and improve the integrity of civil components critical to water diversion and power generation.
This retrofitting was executed through systematic assessment, surface restoration, and specialized grouting and mortar applications, conducted under strict quality supervision by the consultant and NEA's CMG team.

Key Activities and Scope of Work
Rust Treatment and Reinforcement Passivation:
Applied rust remover and passivator bonding solution on corroded rebars to prevent further deterioration
Crack Injection and Structural Repair:
Performed surface cutting (approx. 5mm depth) and created V-grooves for crack localization
Drilled holes and inserted metallic packers at identified structural cracks
Injected low-viscosity, two-component epoxy resin into cracks using a pressure grouting machine for effective structural sealing and bonding
Surface Mortar Application:
Applied high-strength, heavy-duty repair mortar on cleaned and prepared surfaces to restore load-bearing capacity of damaged concrete columns and walls
