Dam Spillway Structure Repair – Middle Bhotekoshi Hydropower Project

Dam Spillway Structure Repair – Middle Bhotekoshi Hydropower Project

This project involved the structural rehabilitation of the dam and weir surfaces at the Middle Bhotekoshi Hydroelectric Station—a high-capacity, run-of-river hydropower project critical to Nepal's energy grid. The work aimed to restore surface integrity, improve durability, and ensure long-term resilience of water-retaining structures exposed to high-velocity flow and sediment abrasion.

A key technical success of this project was the placement of M60-grade high-strength concrete and the application of M80-grade thixotropic mortar for extreme wear resistance. These materials were chosen for their exceptional strength, durability, and bonding performance, vital for long-term reliability in harsh hydraulic conditions.

Dam Spillway Structure Repair – Middle Bhotekoshi Hydropower Project

This project focused on the repair and rehabilitation of the dam spillway at the Middle Bhotekoshi Hydropower Project, a 102 MW facility located in Sindhupalchowk District. The work involved high-strength concrete placement, micro-concreting, and the application of epoxy and cementitious mortars to restore structural integrity and surface durability.

Through the use of M60+ grade concrete, M55+ micro-concrete, and high-performance epoxy mortar systems, the project enhanced the spillway’s resistance to hydraulic and chemical wear, ensuring long-term operational reliability.

Scope of Work

High-Strength Concrete Placement:

  • Carefully batched M60+ grade concrete was used for base and surface rehabilitation of the spillway.

Micro-Concreting on Damaged Surfaces:

  • Applied M55+ grade ready-to-use, high early-strength, non-shrink micro-concrete (Mapefill 08) for structural patching of eroded areas.

Epoxy & Cementitious Mortar Application:

  • Targeted zones received a three-component epoxy mortar (Resin:Hardener:Filler) and cementitious mortar to restore bond and surface integrity.

Why It Matters

This project demonstrated our capability to execute precision-grade concrete and mortar works in complex hydropower environments. The use of high-strength materials not only fulfilled technical requirements but also ensured the spillway’s long-term resilience under high flow conditions.
